Quickest Update Possible

So I did, in fact, make it back from Berlin. It was an incredible experience, one I am very excited to share. This weekend I am going to Vienna. My bus leaves in an hour! I'm running a moonlight 5k around the city on Saturday night! I'm thrilled.

When I get back I owe you posts on Berlin (oh, so many pictures!) and Vienna (likewise).

But, study abroad actually includes some studying. So when I got back from my extra-abroad jaunt last weekend my study time kicked in! (Fine by me, these classes rock.) My digital photos will have to wait (until next week), my film photographs get my full attention in my classes this semester. Here's what I learned this week: how to use a large format camera.

It's what I came here to learn and what I hope to use for my final project. It's an incredible camera. The machine is so simple but the tricks to make the infinite things you can do with it are complicated. It's what masters like Ansel Adams or Richard Avedon used. Ansel Adams and photographers like him though, they had a special love for the large format process. They only used the best. They wanted perfection. Perfect focus, perfect exposures, everything. Adams & co called themselves Group f/64, named for the f-stop (aperture)  they used. f/64 is the highest, giving the most depth of field, and so it is the best. And that is what I used this week.

Pretty cool, huh? When I was telling my best friend  at home about it, Sam said "you couldn't be more stoked could you. I love how excited you get about it." It's true, I'm really excited for my work this semester!
